Plush Flesh & Fantasy Ball: All Tricks, Not Enough Treats

New Swinger Podcast | Apple | Spotify

The 19th annual Flesh & Fantasy Ball promised 1500 swingers and a Halloween party for the ages. So why did we leave feeling like we’d already seen this show?

By: Kat Swings

They say the 19th time’s the charm, right? That’s how long Plush’s Flesh & Fantasy Ball has been drawing costumed swingers to Palm Springs for one of the most talked-about Halloween bashes in the lifestyle. We’d heard the legends. We’d seen the promo photos. And coming off a gangbusters MFM afternoon – we were practically vibrating with New Relationship Energy. The vibe was high, our expectations were higher… and yet, somehow, the ball didn’t quite deliver. Sexy? Sure. Spooky? A little. But somewhere between the LED stripper poles and $14 cocktails, we found ourselves wondering – is this it?

We dish on all this and more plus give lots of questionable newbie advice on the Vanilla Swingers podcast

Plush Flesh & Fantasy Ball

👀 First Impressions – This was our first time at Plush’s Flesh & Fantasy Ball, now in its 19th year, and we really wanted to love it. After a 2-hour drive from L.A. (podcast queued, glitter packed), we rolled into the Riviera Palm Springs, a laidback, sprawling resort that felt more “tropical staycation” than “swinger screamfest.” Palm trees swayed, the weather was deliciously warm, and the pre-party energy felt… hopeful.

Hell, we weren’t exactly walking in cold. We were brimming with post-play bliss (just finished) and riding high on some serious NRE after a gangbuster playtime that finally broke our MFM drought. You’d think nothing could’ve killed our vibe.

But despite the glow, despite the hype, and despite our bodies still humming from the hours before… the party just didn’t ignite. Plush regulars were everywhere – folks from SoCal, AZ, and Vegas – so the vibe was familiar, even if the venue didn’t scream sexy Halloween rager.

Plush SoCal Mansion Party

🎟️ Inside Tour – The main event was housed in what felt like a hotel conference ballroom, which… sigh. Yes, there were LED poles and go-go cages (Plush signatures), but the rest felt a bit meh. The space was big, but not immersive. Ambiance? Minimal. Spooky, sexy, or surreal? Not quite.

Costumes, however, delivered. Think dominatrix Barbie, fallen angels, literal demons, and more devil horns than you could count. We’d say 90% of the crowd dressed up, which is impressive. But despite the visuals, the whole space still lacked that wow factor we’ve come to crave from a marquee event.

🎵 DJ/Dance – Music can make or break a party and here, it mostly… filled space. The DJ spun a steady beat, but there weren’t many “oh sh*t, that’s my song!” moments. It didn’t inspire the kind of dance floor chaos you’d see at Dirty Vegas, which had 2 dance floors and dual genre vibes that kept things fresh and moving.

The pop-up bar inside served drinks around $14 (pretty fair for California), but don’t even think about bringing your own booze inside. We heard they’ve cracked down in the past so we cleverly pre-gamed safely from the long walk from the car to the ballroom.

🍒 Playrooms – Here’s where Plush kinda drops the ball. Aside from their SoCal mansion party (which does deliver on the play), hotel takeovers like this don’t guarantee any. There’s no official playroom, no designated sexy zone, nada. That doesn’t mean people aren’t getting it on – it just means you’re gonna have to work for it. Other takeovers often have a “party floor” vibe – open doors, hallway flirts, afterhours chaos. But the Riviera is way too spread out for that. No central hub, no sexy stumble from room to room. If you don’t lock something down on the dance floor and bring them back to your own room? You might be headed home with just your glowsticks and regret.

🛏️ Accommodations – Let’s talk crash pads. The rooms at the Riviera are… fine. Not fabulous, not tragic – just a solid place to peel off your costume and regroup for the next round of debauchery. The beds? Surprisingly comfy, and the generous room size were great for outfit changes, pre-gaming, and, well, post-party cardio. That said, don’t expect boutique hotel sparkle. The vibe is more “retro resort with a little mileage” than glam – think dated decor, the occasional tired carpet, and that faint smell of 1970s celebrity scandal lingering in the drapes. But for a weekend of glitter, gropes, and glowsticks, it got the job done. Bonus – ground-floor rooms near the pool made for easy midday recharges and sexy snack breaks without trekking across the property.

Plush Dirty Vegas

💦 Pool & Spa – When you’re at a 3‑day lifestyle takeover like Flesh & Fantasy Ball, the pool isn’t just “that place you sit between sets”- it’s part of the party. The Riviera gives you the set‑scene – expansive grounds, desert sunshine, palm fronds everywhere, and 2 outdoor pools that reviewers say are one of its stronger virtues.

During the day the vibe shifted into full pool‑party mode – lounge chairs filled with costumed souls recovering from the road‑trip glow, margaritas in hand, daylight flirting and mid‑morning dips before the main ballroom throws begin. The resort’s layout gives you that “resort meets playground” feel, not just a hotel, but an immersive backdrop for your weekend.

Plush Parties - SoCal's Dirty Secret

🔥 Warning Label – Plush knows how to throw a party—like, really throw a party. Great venues, solid DJs, hot (and often half-naked) people, and ticket prices that make you go, “Wait, that’s it?” So yes, it’s a total win when it comes to value and vibes. That said… it’s not all fishbowls and fireworks. The biggest critique is this – Plush is more party than play, and it can feel cliquey as hell. Once you go to one, you’ll start seeing the same “fun, fit, flirty” crew at all the others – and they’re often in their own world, complete with invite-only afterparties and inside jokes you’re not in on yet.

Don’t expect the warm fuzzies you might find on Bliss Cruise or at Naughty N’awlins. Plush can be a little more “pretty people in VIP” and a little less “swinger summer camp.” If you’re introverted, new to the lifestyle, or hoping people will magically approach you, it might be a struggle to connect. But if you show up ready to mix, mingle, and make your own damn magic? There’s fun to be had.

🔥 Vibe check – This is where things fell short for us. For an event that claims 1500 attendees, it didn’t feel particularly electric. People were friendly as Plush attracts some of the friendliest lifestylers out there, but the overall vibe just didn’t ignite.

We couldn’t help but compare it to Naughty N’awlins (where the ballroom parties feel like Mardi Gras meets Eyes Wide Shut), or even Plush’s own Dirty Vegas, which just hits harder across the board – music, lighting, venue, layout, and energy.

Honestly? It felt like a small step up from Friction North Carolina, which we attended last year, and that event boasted maybe 600 people. So for something with triple the headcount and almost two decades of history, we expected a bit more fire.

✅ Would we go back? – If we’re already in SoCal and craving a quick lifestyle getaway? Sure. But if it’s a toss-up between this and Plush Lake Havasu (hello, boat orgies) or the Vegas rager that is Dirty Vegas – we’d probably opt for one of those next time. Flesh & Fantasy IS a solid choice for Halloween, with 1500 swingers in attendance.

It wasn’t bad. It just wasn’t worth building a trip around.
